Precision Power Back in the Car Audio Game?

We see car audio company's come..we see them go. I think one we all miss is the original PPI! Who can forget the Mosfet 450, or the Art series 1200...heck even the Sedona amps had a ton of bang for the buck. I competed against a lot of guys back in the old IASCA days running the little 12.5 x 2 amps...boy did I "hate" those amps. Well folks, PPI is coming back but it's different this time around. Power Acoustik has acquired the line from DEI who bought PPI from the original owners. From the initial "spy photos" I've seen, the line looks really cool. It's flashy, but clean and they did it without using neon, or chrome flames. They have price points, and categories that will meet most customers needs. The spl guys will love their 18"monster sub, and the sq guys will love their pro series 3-WAY set. Does the build quality match up to the old? Time will tell! Here at Autosport Plus we plan on bringing in the line to see how it goes, so stay tuned for more updates, and reviews on the NEW PPI!

Car Alarms...what's the deal?

Do car alarms work? Will they really protect your car from auto theft, or vandalism? A simple answer is yes and no. Yes because a properly installed security system should come with some features to help keep your car safe. Keep in mind..NO SYSTEM is 100%.

The features you should look for are:

1. A Flashing Status Led. This is the little red or blue light that flashes from the interior of your vehicle. Most installers install them in your dash, but some systems are including them in their window mount antenna...which is fine too. Why is this little light so important? It tells the "thief" you have an alarm, and to go break into someone else's car. It also acts as a status indicator for when your alarm has been triggered.

2. A dual zone impact sensor. This picks up impacts, and strikes to the vehicle. A dual zone sensor can determine between a light and heavy impact, and cuts down on false alarms. This is important to pick up someone breaking a window, or attempting to knock out your locks. Have a convertible? A motion sensor (picks up interior motion) would work best for you. NOTE: DO NOT tell the installer to turn your sensor up, and to make it as sensitive as possible. This only creates more false alarms...wind, loud motorcycles, etc. What good is an alarm that has false alarms all the time?

3. Starter Kill. This disables the starter when the alarm is activated, which will stop the thief from "hot wiring" the vehicle. Most newer cars have this already built into the key, but adding an additional kill makes it that much more difficult to steal.

4. A Paging Remote. This is a remote that will actually page you and let you know when your alarm is going off. These come in many styles including models with LCD Screens. 2-way paging systems come in handy with alarm systems with a remote start system built in since it will page you back when the vehicle is running.

5. The siren. I prefer for customers to hook up their vehicle's horn to their alarm system. A honking horn gets much more attention than a typical siren. Air-Horns are also an option that a lot of customers don't think of.

6. Trunk or Hatch Pin Switch. This will monitor your trunk or hatch so when it is opened the alarm will trigger. This is important if you have an audio system, or if you travel a lot.

7. Door Trigger. This monitors the doors of the vehicle. When a door is opened it will trigger the alarm to go off. If you have a faulty dome light you will need to get it serviced for the alarm to work properly.

8. Battery Backup. This will keep power to the alarm system even if the battery wires have been cut to the system. This is extremely important to owners of classic cars where no hood release is needed to open the hood. A hood pin switch (see trunk pin switch above) is also needed to protect classic cars.

9. Tilt Sensor. This is only needed for the owners of vehicles with custom wheels. This sensor will trigger the alarm if a thief is jacking the vehicle up to remove the wheels. Wheel Locks are still your number 1 defense.

10. Flashing Parking Lights. This brings more attention to your vehicle when the system is going off. This is standard on most systems.

The things a security system will not do:

1. Stop a rock from going through your window.

2. Stop someone from keying it.

3. Stop someone from stealing your iPod or GPS that YOU left out in the open, or any other smash and grab thefts.

4. Put a force field around the vehicle...you would be surprised what some people expect.

5. Stop someone with a tow truck from hauling it away.

Here at Autosport Plus we strive to offer the very best in vehicle security and remote start systems. We ONLY install systems made by Directed Electronics...or DEI, and in my OPINION they make the best systems on the market.

Hope this helps you in picking out the correct system for you and your car.

Facebook Fans

We're trying to add more fans to our Facebook Page! Into audio? Into cars?

Rockford Fosgate No Longer @ Best Buy

Just announced...Rockford Fosgate is going back to their roots and supporting the speciality 12volt Retailer and PULLING OUT of ALL BIG BOX RETAILERS...including Best Buy. Rockford Fosgate has always been a great company offering superior products with a great price, but it is no secret that when they first went into Best Buy their quality did suffer. I believe this move will only increase their quality, and customer service to not only their dealers but the end user. Here at Autosport Plus we have always supported the Rockford line, and we look forward to the upcoming changes. Check our website for more info on the Rockford Fosgate line.

Window Tint Differences

We get phone calls of the time asking us "how much for window tint". Of course we have set prices, but there is a huge difference in tinters, and the actual tint they use. Use painting a car for an example...one uses PPG paint, works and paints in a dust free, professional environment...the other does it outside, or out of his moms garage using spray cans. Which one will turn out better? My money is on the professional, and that's Autosport Plus. We use Llumar film which in considered the best, or one of the best window films on the market. Our PROFESSIONALLY trained window tint techs take pride in what they do, as this is their profession...not just something to do until something else comes along. So, as you call around...get the facts, and don't trust your cars appearance to just anyone. Ask what kind of film they use, the warranty (should be lifetime), and what kind of experience/ training their tinters have.

Custom Wheel Trends 2010

Custom wheels are as hot as ever at Autosport Plus. Even with snow on the ground customers are getting their "whips" ready for Spring. The trends so far this year is the bigger the better. We've been doing 20's on compacts, 24's on Magnums, 26"+ on the Donks, and of course 24"+ on the SUV's. With color matching still being very popular, I see the Status lip locks being huge this year. If you are unfamiliar with the Status Wheel Lineup check out our website for some pictures...very cool! I also see black wheels, and black wheels with machined accents being big for 2010. SEMA this year was all about the forged wheels which are a bit pricey, so I see a lot of customers going with the less expensive "machined look". We've also seen a jump in the off road market with customers buying 36" off road tires with a 22" wheel....looks great, performs great, and really sets off the vehicle! This has been a category (off roaders) in the past that we needed work on, so I'm glad to see our marketing efforts and training is paying off. New display wheels are showing up daily, so if you have not been in for a while stop in now and check out some of the new designs.

Remote Car Starters

Some days I think we should rename our shop to remote start plus....this time of year it's all we do! Why are remote starts so popular? It's pretty simple really...a remote car start system allows you to start your vehicle by remote control from the comfort of your home, office, or school. That's right no more scraping your windows, freezing to your leather seats, etc. Here at Autosport Plus we offer the very best in remote starts from Python by DEI. What makes them the best? The slickest remotes, the longest range, and the best warranty...period!

We're here! Autosport Plus!
